At Boswell Concrete & Asphalt, we take pride in delivering durable, precise concrete work that enhances both function and aesthetics. Our recent project at St. Teresa’s Academy in Kansas City, MO, perfectly showcased that commitment. The school was expanding and improving its parking lot to better serve students, staff, and visitors.
Our role was to form and pour new concrete curbs that would define parking areas, control traffic flow, and support long-term drainage performance on a challenging sloped site.
A Strong Foundation for a Safer, Smarter Parking Lot
The new concrete parking lot at St. Teresa’s Academy wasn’t a simple flat-space job. The site sits on a gradual hillside in the heart of Kansas City, which meant our team needed to take special care with grading and elevation. Every inch of the curb line had to be set with precision to maintain both appearance and function. Too high, and water might pool in unwanted places; too low, and drainage could run back toward the hillside.
We began by surveying and marking out the perimeter layout, ensuring every curve and transition would flow smoothly into the rest of the parking lot design.
Once the forms were set, our crew poured high-strength concrete, shaping the curbs to follow the natural slope while still providing crisp, clean lines. The curved sections weren’t just for looks—they guide traffic safely through the lot and keep vehicles where they belong.
Crafting Curves and Managing Drainage
Concrete curb installation might look straightforward once it’s finished, but on a sloped site like this, precision is everything. Each curve required careful attention during forming to maintain the correct radius and height, ensuring a seamless appearance once the concrete was placed and finished.
Drainage was another key factor. Because the parking lot sits above part of the campus, we needed to ensure water would flow away from the hillside and into the designated storm drains. Our grading and curb elevations were designed to do exactly that—channeling rainwater efficiently while keeping the surface dry and stable.
The result is a parking lot that not only looks great but functions perfectly in all weather. Once the curbs cured and the forms were removed, the site was ready for paving and final surfacing, setting the stage for years of reliable use.
Partnering with a Trusted Kansas City Concrete Team
Working at an active educational campus required careful coordination and a tight schedule. We planned our work to minimize disruption and maintain safety around the site. The St. Teresa’s Academy team appreciated our attention to detail and communication throughout the process, and we were proud to help improve such a well-loved local institution.
Projects like this reflect our commitment to quality craftsmanship and local pride. Every curb, every grade, and every finish line is part of our larger mission to build Kansas City’s infrastructure one project at a time.
